1. Xplain Data Admin Tool (XAT)

General Overview

The Xplain Admin Tool (XAT) is a tool with which you can administer your installation of our software. It essentially allows you to a) manage your users, b) monitor your server process and c) import data.

This chapter is dedicated to the last point: importing data from your data sources into Xplain Data.

Xplain Data’s import tool is a web application which helps you to import data from different data sources. All data is saved in files with the file extension .xtable or .xattribute. How XTables or XAttributes are defined is coded in small JSON files (one for each XTable or XAttribute). Instead of using the import UI, you may as well write the configuration files with a plain text editor (the syntax of the JSON files is discussed here). But in most cases, of course, it will be more convenient to use the UI.

Documentation

The documentation for importing data is contained directly in the XAT. As soon as you start the XAT, a short video will explain the basics of the import process. You will also find explanatory videos on these steps in the windows for creating XAttribute and XTable files.

You can find all videos in the ‘Help Videos’ menu, which you can access via the symbol with the three dots in the top right-hand corner. You can also access these videos directly here:

Data Base Connection, Xtable Config, Build ObjectView Basics

This video explains the first steps in operating the XAT.

XTable Configuration

Find out here how you can load data from your data sources into XTable files.

XAttribute Configuration

This video explains how you can load catalogue data, aka XAttribute files.
